A digital flame photometer is a precision analytical instrument that quantifies the concentration of specific metal ions—primarily alkali and alkaline earth metals like sodium, potassium, lithium, and calcium—in a sample. It operates on the principle of atomic emission spectroscopy, where a sample is nebulized into a flame, exciting the metal atoms to emit light at characteristic wavelengths. A photodetector measures the intensity of this light, which is then processed by the instrument's digital components to display the element's concentration directly in units like parts per million (ppm).
